- How to master the rainbow flick
The rainbow flick
The rainbow flick is a very spectacular and effective trick often seen from Brazilian national team footballers. The South American world champions have been impressing football fans around the world with their trickery for decades. Of course, nowadays it is commonplace at the top of the football world and many have mastered it. It is usually the wingers who use this football trick to fool opposing defenders.
The essence of the rainbow flick
The essence of the rainbow flick is to pull the ball up with one foot on the back of the other foot, and then swing the ball forward from the back in a sudden movement. It is often seen in classic football matches as well as in futsal small-sided football matches.
Step by step
Read and see the photos before the video. It will be easier to understand the football trick.
Step 1
Step with one foot in front of the ball and the other foot behind the ball. Squeeze the ball with both feet. You don’t need to push too hard, but feel that the ball is not moving and that you are holding it steady with your feet. Tip: It is usually better to step with your stronger foot in front of the ball.
Step 2
With your back foot, try to move the ball upwards by pushing the ball against the back of your front foot (between the heel and the calf). Keep the foot you are pushing the ball with on the ball and try to move it like this. Tip: It’s worth trying very small movements to move the ball up and down at first to master the technique.
Step 3
When you are sure you can catch the ball with your feet and you can move upwards, you can try to suddenly pull up the heel of your front foot after moving upwards. Tip: When you try to swing the ball forward behind you, lean your body forward while doing so.
The trick in 3 steps
Step 1: Catch the ball. Step 2: Move the ball. Step 3: Swing the ball
